Guided tour “Discovering the Hotel Palácio's collection of glass negatives: The conservation and restoration process”
The Hotel Palácio's photographic collection, deposited in the Cascais Municipal Historical Archive in 2010, records unique moments in the history of Portuguese society in the first half of the 20th century. Men, women and children, anonymous or famous and from different backgrounds, are the protagonists of images taken between 1914 and 1955 that attest to the rise of Estoril as an internationally renowned tourist destination.
After restoring, organizing, describing and digitizing the 2,005 images that make up this collection, which is presented to the public for the first time in the exhibition The Invention of Estoril: History in Photography, we invite you to take part in a very special tour. It will be led by Luís Pavão and Ana Coelho, conservator-restorers who coordinated the work of recovering a collection that is fundamental to establishing new bridges between the past and the present of the municipality.
