Presentation of the book ‘Ruídos e Corroídos: Ecos de Tesouros Perdidos’, by Gastão de Brito e Silva
The book ‘Ruídos e Corroídos - Ecos de Tesouros Perdidos’ is the continuation of Gastão de Brito e Silva's Ruin'Arte Project, where writing, historical research and photography come together in defence of the erected, forgotten and depleted. The first edition was launched in December 2022 and the second edition, revised and added to, was launched in June this year at the opening of the exhibition ‘From Ruin to Glory - The Scars of History’ at the monastery of Santa Maria de Seiça in Figueira da Foz. It is now at the Municipal Library of Cascais - Casa da Horta da Quinta de Santa Clara.
It tells enigmatic stories rescued from the stones and their distant memories, the result of in-depth research that demystifies the curiosities and personalities intricately interwoven in these abandoned dwellings. Its pages are illustrated with images that convey the decay of the unfortunate and historic buildings, with the distinctive graphic line already characteristic of the Ruin'Arte Project. It follows the same line of indoctrination and dissemination, which is not only transversal in typological and territorial terms, but also comprehensive in content and with a positive and enlightening message. Since the issue of building preservation concerns everyone, this book aims to contribute in some way to educating, raising awareness and helping to find a solution to this ruinous situation.
