The Pillars of History – Story Time for Adults
“The Pillars of History”, with Eduardo Gomes, is a project focused on the History of Portugal, consisting of a series of sessions supported by captivating communication, analyzing the great deeds, the glories and misfortunes, the mythical heroes, the betrayal of the weak, the virtues and sins of Portugal. The next season, which will run until July 2025, will focus on the historical period from 1500 to 1640:
. The political situation in Morocco. Conquests, losses and territorial abandonments;
. Magellan's circumnavigation voyage;
. The Portuguese empire in the East and the first signs of decline:
. The colonization of Brazil;
. The establishment of the Society of Jesus in Portugal;
. The Inquisition. Jews and New Christians. Heresies and persecutions;
. The dangerous links between the royal princes of Portugal and Spain;
. The misogyny of King Sebastião and his failed espousals;
. The tragedy of Alcácer-Quibir;
. The Coronation of Cardinal Henry. The king's attempts at marriage.
. The succession and the candidates.
. The period of dual monarchy;
. Social problems and Sebastianism;
. The Restoration of 1640.
