“Dramance” | Theatre Is More Than a Hobby
“Dramance — Theatre Is More Than Just a Hobby” takes audiences behind the scenes of a theatre company on the verge of collapse, where chaotic rehearsals collide with a very real threat: the possible sale of the space that gives the group its purpose and identity. What begins as just another rehearsal day quickly spirals into panic, exposing vulnerabilities, ambitions, and the urgent need to prove that theatre is far more than a simple pastime.
By intertwining theatrical drama with the “drama” of romantic relationships — the true essence of “dramance” — the play creates a metatheatrical dynamic in which stage and reality become increasingly blurred. At the heart of it all lies a central question: what is truly taken seriously in a society that so often undervalues both art and human emotions?
Through humour, music, and moments of emotional rupture, “Dramance” presents theatre as a space of resistance, empathy, and truth, showing that, much like love itself, it demands complete dedication and can never be reduced to a mere hobby.
“Dramance — Theatre Is More Than Just a Hobby” is a collective creation by students from the Teatro@Escola project by TRIBO de PALCO, developed with a group of 10th and 11th grade students from Escola Secundária Helena Cidade Moura.
