Mariana Xavier - Antes do Ano Que Vem
After winning over audiences across Brazil, actress Mariana Xavier brings her hit one-woman comedy "Antes do Ano Que Vem" (Before Next Year) to Portugal for a single night in Estoril.
The story unfolds on New Year's Eve, when a helpline worker finds herself taking call after call from people whose lives are in emotional freefall. Confessions, meltdowns and wildly unexpected situations follow, and Mariana Xavier plays every character herself, switching between them in a remarkable display of acting.
Written by Gustavo Pinheiro and directed by Ana Paula Bouzas and Lázaro Ramos, the play takes on mental health, loneliness and the search for happiness with sharp humour, warmth and plenty of moments audiences will recognise from their own lives.
Expect lots of laughter, a few lumps in the throat, and a reminder that sometimes laughter really is the best medicine. The performance is in Portuguese.
