Great Works for String Quartet, a recital by the OCCO—Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra
The OCCO—Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra—presents a recital at the Museum of Portuguese Music - Casa Verdades de Faria—featuring two iconic works from the string quartet repertoire.
Mozart is represented by the first of his “Prussian” quartets. The OCCO soloists will perform the second quartet from J. Brahms’s Op. 51, composed when he was 40 years old. Brahms was extremely demanding when it came to his chamber music - especially quartets - due to his immense respect for Beethoven and the legacy he left in that genre. It is well known that he destroyed more than 20 quartets before allowing the publication of the two quartets from Op. 51, a testament to his high standards and artistic rigor.
