In Seville, the young Count Almaviva seeks to win Rosina’s hand, relying on the help of the resourceful Figaro to outwit her guardian, Dr Bartolo. Amidst disguises, misunderstandings and farfetched schemes, Rossini creates a vibrant story of love and freedom, marked by famous arias and brilliant ensembles.
With a libretto by Cesare Sterbini, based on Beaumarchais’s comedy, the opera premiered in Rome in 1816 and has become one of the great classics of the operatic repertoire.
