Book Presentation: “The Oldest Surfer in the Atlantic,” by Pedro Arruda
As part of a series of events featuring writers who are also surfers, the book presentation for “The Oldest Surfer in the Atlantic: A History of Surfing in the Azores” will be attended by the author.
This book takes us back to the time when the first Azoreans arrived in Hawaii and brings us up to the present day, spanning two centuries of history - from the relationship between the two archipelagos to a sport that has conquered the world. What if some of the first foreigners to settle on the Hawaiian islands were, after all, Azorean whalers?
Pedro Arruda was born in Lisbon in 1974 and has lived in the Azores since 1998, where he works as a businessman in the tourism industry. A poet, surfer, and pineapple farmer, he has held various positions in the public and private sectors, always connected to tourism, culture, media, and sports. A bodyboarder since 1984, the ocean is his greatest passion.
