County Heritage Routes | The conquest of Cascais in the context of the War of Succession in Portugal
This visit will remind you of a remarkable episode in the history of Cascais and Portugal: the Castilian invasion of the country, with the seizure of Cascais and the beginning of the Philippine dynasty. The seizure of power by force was supported by a land and sea invasion led by the Duke of Alba.
We will follow, step by step, the strategy of the conquest that began with the landing of the Spanish military in Cascais and we will visit some places that tell stories, such as the Fort of São Jorge de Oitavos and the Laje do Ramil. The tour also includes a visit to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia and the Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Luz.
