Description

The โ€œDive for Peaceโ€ event, part of European Heritage Days 2025, coincides with International Peace Day, declared by the United Nations (UN).

Originally, the โ€œDive for Peaceโ€ event was a UNESCO initiative that took place from 2014 to 2018, on the centenary of World War I, and within the scope of the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, with the aim of promoting the memory of the maritime tragedies of World War I, transforming them into opportunities for learning, reflection, and peace.

This activity includes a public conference on the 20th that will address the themes of sea rescues during World War II and research into the wreck of the โ€œRoberto Ivens.โ€ On the 21st, there will be a dive with a tribute and the laying of a wreath at the site where this Portuguese Navy vessel sank, sunk by a sea mine in 1917, resulting in the death of 15 of its 22 crew members.
