Description

SYNOPSIS OF THE BOOK:

Ricardo is a reserved child, preoccupied with his homework. His extroversion is only achieved through reading. At the age of twelve, he suffers a viral infection and during his convalescence he experiences difficulties speaking for the first time. His nervous system became unfriendly and too demanding. On his first day back at school, in seventh grade, he witnesses a young girl being run over by a car. The effect is immediate and Ricardo swallows everything he has seen. In the twelfth grade, during a math class, he meets a girl, named Amanda in the book. This acquaintance leads him to total self-knowledge. His passion for numbers is identified. Amanda, his companion and math fairy, died very young when she was involved in a road accident and Ricardo was thrown into an inner abyss. He identifies the discipline and signs up for it, but because of his deep insecurity, he goes on to study management, where he meets Isabel and Elizabete. He establishes a very strong emotional bond with Isabel, appropriate for the moment when he is trying to repair his grief. In the experience of friendship, she identifies the desire to communicate her emotions, but has no experience of talking about them. Generalized anxiety, a series of panic attacks and difficulties in speaking become a limiting lens. Difficulties in communicating her emotions make the message barely perceptible and the friend gradually distances herself. A solid friendship, with reciprocal bonds in terms of care, ends up being torn apart. Meanwhile, Ricardo slowly but steadily reaches the “Knowing how to communicate emotions and less positive occurrences” stage. After finishing his business degree, he is ready to study his mathematics.

Ricardo Alexandre Saraiva Gomes was born in Luanda. At the age of seventeen, through very considerable emotional help, he transformed his phobia about numbers into an immeasurable passion that led him to discover statistics and epidemiology as life's professional gifts. He suffers from anxiety and post-traumatic stress, but he overcomes life's obstacles like a river, always heading towards his dream, to serve teaching and basic or clinical research.
