Route to Democracy – European Week of Local Democracy
To mark European Local Democracy Day (15 October), Cascais Municipal Council is organising European Local Democracy Week on 6, 7 and 8 October, featuring guided tours of the new Democracy Trail.
The aim is to promote political literacy and encourage more conscious and informed participation.
An easy walking route (1.1 km / 2 hours 30 minutes) with stops at various historical and political landmarks in the town, where you will discover interesting facts and learn more about democracy, participation and citizenship.
Starting point: Passeio Maria Pia (next to the steps leading down to the Marina)
Stop 1: Statue of King D. Carlos
Stop 2: Casa Sommer – Jardim da Parada
Stop 3: Cascais Cultural Centre
Finish point: Praça 5 de Outubro
Target audience: general public; associations, universities for older people, social centres and senior citizens’ centres in the municipality.
