Description

A participatory experience inspired by underwater archaeology and the long history of shipwrecks off the coast of Cascais.

Using objects, cargo, and material clues, the public is invited to reconstruct the history of a ship from the Indian Trade Route and discover how archaeologists distinguish between evidence, interpretation, and maritime imagination.

The activity unfolds as an investigation. A collection of materials related to 16th- and 17th-century sea voyages raises questions: Where did they come from? Did they belong to the same ship? What can actually be proven?

The case of the ship Nossa Senhora dos Mรกrtires, which sank in 1606 near Sรฃo Juliรฃo da Barra, serves as a reference point for exploring the Indian Trade Route, the goods transported, the risks of navigation, and the work of underwater archaeology.

Approximately 50-60 minutes, adapted to the groupโ€™s pace, age, and level of participation.

Free, with prior registration.
