Exhibition by Fashion Designer José António Tenente - “Getting Ready for the Ball”
The programming at the Paula Rego House of Stories is centered around Paula Rego’s thematic universe, featuring a diverse range of exhibitions that take the artist as their focal point and point of reference. This programmatic approach aims to highlight the boundless nature of her work, which is not confined to the realm of the visual arts but constantly intersects with other artistic expressions such as literature, film, theater, and fashion - the primary sources of the stories that inspire the artist.
It is less common to witness the reverse process, in which her multifaceted imagination takes shape beyond the canvas or paper, serving as the starting point for fashion designer José António Tenente’s Winter 2009/10 collection. Drawing on some of her works as references - in particular those with strong decorative elements created from the 1990s onward - the collection was conceived and developed in direct dialogue with the artist’s iconic works, such as *Anjo* (1998).
