Book Presentation: “O Nemo e a Soraia” by Abel Cartaxo, with illustrations by Davi Augusto
In a seaside village, Soraia, a kind and courageous young girl, rescues a deer in danger, and in that moment, her destiny intersects with that of Nemo, a mysterious boy from an underwater kingdom. Amid secret meetings, magical discoveries, and a very special friendship, the two realize that, despite belonging to different worlds, there is something that unites them. But when Nemo’s secret is uncovered by the village, fear and misunderstanding turn their adventure into a challenge.
Faced with all these obstacles, Soraia and Nemo discover that together they possess extraordinary strength. Thus begins a magical journey toward a new world, where courage, friendship, and love can overcome barriers that once seemed insurmountable. This story of magic and adventure is for children and families, and invites us to believe that what makes us different can also be what makes us special.

Abel Cartaxo was born in 1966 in the small village of Cem Soldos, in the municipality of Tomar, where he lived until he moved to Lisbon. It was in the capital that he completed high school at Liceu D. Pedro V, and where he lived for several years.
From an early age, he found in books and stories a gateway to other worlds. Among his literary influences are authors such as Charles Dickens and Jules Verne, but his greatest inspiration came from within his own home, from his children. It was for them that he began to invent stories, creating imaginary worlds, adventures, and characters that sparked their curiosity and filled their eyes with wonder.
Today, she has more than two dozen stories - many of them already written - waiting to find young readers and new worlds where they can come to life. “O Nemo e a Soraia,” released in May 2026 by Meia Longa Publishing during the Lisbon Book Fair, is his first published book and marks the beginning of a journey that Abel hopes to take hand in hand with children and their families.
